Kitchener Graffiti

Kitchener Ontario is a fast growing city within the "Golden Horseshoe" which is part of the major technology triangle in South-Western Ontario. We also have our fair share of problems and crime that go hand in hand with any major urban center down here, including lots of street gangs and just as much violence. Sometimes I think this city is just as rotten as the next.
Myself? I was never involved in that shit, and I certainly would not want my young sons to grow up like that either. I'm not one of these gangster wannabe's (that are a dime-a-dozen down here) or one of the shitty street graffiti artists that we have plenty of too. I'm just a hip hop enthusiast who loves hip hop music production and operates a very popular web site. I am however, fascinated by the underground graffiti culture. Which is the reason I started this Canadian graffiti gallery, so my users can get hi res graffiti photos. This web site is becoming a powerful medium and a great way for me to reach thousands upon thousands of people a month worldwide.

Now, I mentioned before these "shitty graffiti artists" and when I talk about these people I mean the very un-talented kids who tag mailboxes or doors with permanent markers and other useless forums across this city.

If you came to this web site looking for a glimpse at our local graffiti scene then I'm going to show you quality street art from our many local anonymous figures. I'm going to show you real Kitchener graffiti. Some of it done by very talented artists, some not-so-much. You decide.

I have a large collection of graffiti pictures that I will not even bother posting on this site's Gallery's because of the poor quality, and I'm not talking about my Sony Cyber Shot camera, I mean the pictures of walls that are just layered with one tag over another until it shapes this ugly blob of unreadable scribbles and swear words.
Terrible, just terrible.
No offence to any one person, but this is garbage.

What a mess.
Growing up here my friends and I had already explored many parts of this city on foot, so I already had a clear picture of where to find the best street art. It goes like this: if you find train tracks around here, you'll find graffiti. If you find an expressway overpass you'll find graffiti under the bridge. If you find your way onto the grounds of an abandoned factory through already cut hole in the barbwire fence, you'll find graffiti!
Train tracks lead to graffiti
Where there's train tracks, there is graffiti.

"Never catch me"
It Truly Can't be Stopped

This web site will showcase a lot different styles of street art, and the bulk of it is hip hop influenced. All the graffiti pictures here are free downloads. Some of these tags simply mark where individuals have been, others where local Clicks have been to and their turfs. Other graffiti taunts police like the "Never catch me" tags I see from one end of Kitchener to the next. Or the "Kant be Stopped" lettering I've been seeing.

I'm still on the lookout for new material that I can get a clear shot of but for the most part the graffiti is not that easy to get to. On my travels I encountered one particular wall behind a plaza on Victoria St. that was just covered in graffiti, an urban mural I'd say but it was almost completely obscured by thick vegetation and I could not get at it without a machete! A testament to how long it must have been there to have so much underbrush spring up around it.

"Kant be stopped"

There are people who call it defacing public property yet others call it art. It's your call on that one, I'm not the one out there with the spray can I'm just out there with my digital camera photographing the results. That's right! I didn't steal these photos from other web pages. I'm the one out there walking the train tracks, hopping fences, dodging police, trespassing any abandoned property I could find and cutting through thick vegetation to get these original pictures of Kitchener graffiti. Free graffiti pictures is what this page is all about. Some of these tags dating back more than ten years.

Along the way I also see the more poverty stricken side of this town, a lot of street people living under bridges in terrible conditions. Picture old mattresses with broken liquor bottles amongst overturned shopping carts on a graffiti filled backdrop.

The picture to the right is just one photo of dozens of such locations. I came across some places where there was a ton of good graffiti pictures to be taken but I turned around and left because I didn't feel it was right to take photos of the squalid conditions where these street kids sleep.
